Russian propagandists fake Al Jazeera Ukraine strike post

Russian propaganda Telegram channels circulated a fabricated screenshot made to look like an Al Jazeera post about strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukrinform reported Friday.

The fake report claimed Russian strikes had reduced calls from so-called scam call centers by 60%. It alleged those centers defrauded people worldwide and that crimes involving telephone fraud had “decreased” in Israel, Poland, the United Kingdom, Hungary and Serbia.

The agency said: “This is false.” The screenshot presented a fictitious report as an Al Jazeera publication and used material from an August 11, 2026, Al Jazeera report, including footage of the aftermath of an attack on Zaporizhzhia.

The original report said at least 12 people had been killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine and quoted President Volodymyr Zelensky as saying Russia had used North Korean missiles. Its subheadline noted that a children’s hospital in Kyiv had also been hit.

The fake post replaced information about the consequences of Russian strikes with an invented story about “scam call centers.” The report said the aim was to justify attacks on Ukraine’s civilian and energy infrastructure and portray Ukraine as a source of criminal threat to other countries.

The article, attributed to Andrii Olenin, also noted an earlier fake claim spread by Russians alleging that Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska wore stolen jewelry to the Coalition of the Willing summit.
